Despite that fact that the band has done absolutely nothing for the past four years (when their last record, Under the Blacklight, was released), and that the various band members have all splintered off into solo careers, it took guitarist Blake Sennett’s admission in an interview with Spinner today to make the world realized that Rilo Kiley are indeed not on hiatus, but are quite broken up.

According to The AV Club:

“Blaming a toxic mix of ‘deception, disloyalty, greed, and things I don’t really want to submit myself to,’ Sennett has essentially said ‘f*** that, I can’t do this anymore’ to the prospect of playing with Rilo Kiley again. ‘Relationships, like Woody Allen said, are either moving forward or theyre moving backwards, they either degrade or they grow and it was degrading to some certain extent in Rilo Kiley,’ he told Spinner.

“’On Blacklight, Sennett pointedly said I dont think it was our best record by far. I think that it could have been our best but I think we were under pressure. There were some of our best songs on that record but some of our worst songs. Like, Dejalo and 15—I didnt like those songs. Theyre OK, but we have a ton of old tracks that are better than a lot of the stuff that did make the record.’

So there you go, world.  In other news, word on the street is that the Talking Heads might be kaput, too.  Oh, and the Beatles.  So there’s that.

What do you think of the Rilo Kiley news?
