How long has it been since you checked in with the Deadite community? Do you remember the worlds breached due to the Necronomicon? Klaata Barada (cough/indecipherable)? If it’s been a while, Discount Comic Book Service and Dynamite Entertainment want to hit you with a boomstick’s worth of entertainment value.
The Evil Dead broke boundries upon its release in 1981. By virtue of an innovative fund-raising scheme (most of the film’s budget was procured through local dentists), filmmaker Sam Raimi set out with longtime friends Rob Tapert (Producer) and Bruce Campbell (Lead Actor) to make a blood-soaked horror movie.
Now with a more significant budget, the crew did a revision of their original film, calling it Evil Dead II. This time the gore was tempered by comical overtones, offering brief lapses in tension before returning to visceral, dynamic direction.
1992 saw the release of the final installment in the Evil Dead franchise, Army of Darkness. This time the terrible trio of Raimi, Tapert and Campbell unleashed an action adventure comedy with horror overtones. With an even larger budget and a decidedly more mainstream appeal, Army of Darkness introduced a whole new audience to everyone’s favorite S-Mart employee Ash.
